Perhaps entropy moved faster than we thought. Perhaps the galaxy decided humanity isn't worth saving.

After we burned through our world, we sought salvation amongst the stars. A hundred billion stars presented themselves through the Pattern. Uncountable planets. Seemingly infinite asteroids. And not a single one provided salvation. Dying suns, inhospitable systems, hostile parasitic life, strange phenomena. War between planets, war between stations, war between solar systems, all a proxy for the war to control the dying embers of an entropic galaxy.

Most people live on the stations or worlds where they were born, living meaningless lives, contributing only their labor, consuming ever-dwindling resources. Those who can travel the stars, leaving behind a pointless life for the chance at fortune, fame, or a family.

In the dark spaces between the stars, something hungers - the Scourge claims the bodies of those who stray too far from the Pattern.

Entropy Consumes All

The stars are dying. Distant suns burn ever dimmer until blinking out of existence. Null and its entropic force consumes the galaxy. It is likely that the last humans will experience the end of all things, watching helplessly as the final star burns away.

We are Alone

While there is some alien flora and fauna, there is no evidence that intelligent life still exists in the galaxy. The remnants of long-dead alien civilizations remind us that at one point we may not have been alone, but wherever they went, they left a long time ago.

The Pattern Is Not Your Friend

Some revere the Pattern as a god - a holy equation containing all that has and will happen. Scholars study it, making predictions and prophecies based on what they see. It may well be that the Pattern contains the sum of all creation and answers to all our questions, but, as all Scavs can tell you, the Pattern may sometimes give, but Null always takes.
