The galaxy was supposed to save us.

Perhaps entropy moved faster than we thought. Perhaps the galaxy decided humanity isn't worth saving.

After we burned through our world, we sought salvation amongst the stars. A hundred billion stars presented themselves through the Pattern. Uncountable planets. Seemingly infinite asteroids. And not a single one provided salvation. Dying suns, inhospitable planets, hostile alien life, strange phenomenon. War between planets, war between stations, war between solar systems, all a proxy for the war to control the dying embers of an entropic galaxy. 

Most people live on the stations or worlds where they were born, living meaningless lives, contributing only their labor, consuming ever-dwindling resources. Those who can travel the stars, leaving behind a pointless life for the chance at fortune, fame, or a family.
